Residential Real Estate Investing
Commonly touted as one of the best long-term investment vehicles, real estate values are virtually guaranteed to increase over a matter of decades, and often appreciate greatly over a couple of years during so called “property booms.” Real property, of course, is very expensive in comparison to most other investments, and isn't without short- to medium-term risk. The ability to take out a relatively low-interest property loan or “mortgage,” however, against the value of a property makes real estate more affordable than it seems. Although many ordinary people make good money from their own homes, the majority of serious real estate investors also own rental properties, so as to generate income while housing prices increase. Those who can afford to own several different houses or apartment buildings while the rental market is good and housing prices are appreciating have been known to generate double-digit returns on capital invested. |
